The Captives in the Crystals is a Side Quest in Divinity: Original Sin Enhanced Edition. This quest is about breaking free three convicts imprisoned in ice crystals in Hiberheim. Each convict has its own dealings and having completed all 3, this quest is completed. While you may be morally inclined to help these prisoners escape, from a game perspective, killing them is a better option because of the loot they carry.
The three captives are Arroka the Earth Elemental, Haizea the Yeti and Antzigar the Ice Elemental.

Walkthrough
- You need to find them all and process them in order to complete this quest.
- Arroka the Earth Elemental
- The ice crystals that Arroka is imprisoned in are located directly south of the 'Hiberheim Forest' Portal.
- To free him, just break the ice crystal. When you do three Snow Wardens will show up and start talking to you.
- IF you choose to take his side ---> The 3 Snow Wardens will turn hostile and you have to fight them. Afterward, you can talk to Arroka. (+1 Renegade, + 9240 XP)
- IF you choose to oppose him ----> the three Snow Wardens will try to undo your mistake of freeing Arroka by killing him, thus starting a battle against Arroka. ( +1 Righteous, + 2830 XP)
- IF you let him live above, upon speaking with him you can learn about King Boreas, the White Witch and a secret hatch entrance.
- Haizea the Yeti
- The ice crystals that Haizea is imprisoned in are located directly south of the fortress where William McWishing Well is located.
- To free him, just break the ice crystal. When you do 2 Snow Wardens will show up and start talking to you.
- After the fight, Haizea will ask you to teach him the Cultist Spell.
- Show him the spell and let him go free (+1 Egotistical)
- Refuse to show him / let him escape and fight him for (+3300 XP, +1 Altruistic)
- Antzigar the Ice Elemental
- The ice crystals that Antzigar is imprisoned in are located to the Northeast from the Hiberheim Castle Portal.
- To free him, just break the ice crystal. When you do 3 Snow Wardens will show up and start talking to you.
- IF you choose to take his side ---> The 3 Snow Wardens will turn hostile and you have to fight them. Afterward, you can talk to Antzigar. (+1 Forgiving, + 5940 XP)
- IF you choose to oppose him ----> the three Snow Wardens will try to undo your mistake of freeing Antzigar by killing him, thus starting a battle against Antzigar. ( +1 Vindictive, + 2830 XP)
- IF you let him free, speaking with him later you will learn from him how to get to Boreas' Treasure Room and get the Winter Ring.
AnonymousThis quest won't complete for me.I've freed all three and sided with the snowmen every time, but the quest is still there. I have also already completed all of the main quests in that area. Any ideas on how to resolve it? I'm not sure, but I think the quest might have been bugged from when I killed the Yeti. The snowmen actually did the last hit on the Yeti, and my log does not say "We killed Haizea" but it does say we killed the other two. Maybe you have to actually get the last hit on the prisoners in order to resolve the quest?
Quest still seems broken as of 8/16/2022 playing through, did all 3 trapped npcs, tried different methods to complete the quest (kill all 3, release all 3, etc) but quest was still open after the 3rd one.
