Books in Divinity: Original Sin Enhanced Edition are key pieces of information. Apart from providing tips & guidance, these books also explain the lore of the game.
Once read, quest-related information contained inside is permanently added to the log. Duplicate copies of some books - especially recipe books - are likely to appear in any game.
A couple of books are referred to by name only by NPCs (such as the mutterings of Victoria or Jahan in the library), and do not appear as items in the game.
Below is a list of all available non-spell books in Divinity Original Sin Enhanced Edition.
Skill / spell books (or certain scrolls) that teach your character new skills / spells are also called books, but these function slightly differently. If the reader character has the appropriate stats, reading the skillbook will add that skill or spell to an empty slot in the characters skill bar, and the spell book will be 'consumed' permanently. These are not included below and have their own page.

Can we add an explanation as to who "learns" the recipe when a book is read?
Is it
The first reader of the book?
Everyone in the party?
Only the main characters?
The one(s) with the highest loremaster stat?
... or something else?
I notice that different party members seem to know different recipes, but if I get the more ignorant ones to read, those recipes are not added to their knowledge. How does this work, actually?
A related question: Is there any reason to cart recipe books around, or can they be sold or dumped once reading?
